RiceBall!!!

I am UBER excited (not to be confused with the car/taxi) for Pokemon’s 20 Year Celebration!!! So, I must admit that I have not finished the most recent games because responsibilities as an adult continue to interfere with my daily life.  But, I have been a true Pokemon fan and trainer since the 1996 release of Red & Blue versions, and the game changing release of Pokemon Yellow. *eyes tearing up* They truly were marvelous games. And part of the foundation of my awesome childhood. The games accompanied by the original Pokemon anime, Pokemon theme song, and PokeRap. It was a great time to be a kid.  I have such strong memories of many Pokemon masters, trainers…they’re dear to many fans’ hearts even until this day. Nintendo knows that majority of its success with Pokemon comes from its large nostalgic factor. So, lets take a quick minute, to celebrate and reminisce together. Karaoke style. Sing it with me RiceBall!!!

5 Reasons To Watch One Punch Man

2015 was a great year for new and interesting anime.  However, one anime took the crown. That anime is, One Punch Man (OPM)! When it first was released, social media was having a field day. It almost seemed as though OPM broke the anime internet. But, why? What is it about this anime that is making people across the world go crazy? It seems as though OPM showed up over night. All I kept seeing was random clips of amazing GIFs and fight scenes, and one bald headed guy with a weirdly animated face in a yellow jump suit and red gloves.  Upon furthering my research (aka talking to my nerd friends), all I kept hearing was that, “He’s a hero but for fun…and he is crazy strong!” What?? I tried to reserve my judgement until I watched the anime.  It seemed like there was a lot of over-hype about it. Is this anime really that good?  What was it that set it apart from the rest to make it the most talked about and entertaining anime of the 2015 year?  After finally watching the anime in full,  I understand. If you haven’t already watched it yet. Here are: 5 reasons to watch One Punch Man. Continue reading “5 Reasons To Watch One Punch Man”

POC in Pop Culture and Anime. Hey, They Look Like Me!!!

For over the last few months, I have been discussing the craziness, the changes, and debates happening in pop culture with many of my friends and nerds alike. So grab a rice ball real quick and lets discuss. There has been a long lasting issue regarding people of color (POC), and their representation within comics, movies, books, and anime. There is an unsaid ideology, that if what is being illustrated is not a POC centered tale then they should not be envisioned in the role. Even though the genre being discussed is fiction. POC tend to not be depicted within the larger realm of these areas. This was best shown when Amandla Stenberg was casts in the Hunger Games as Rue. The uproar from Hunger Games fans around the world was enormous. Rue is not black. This was the anger poured in from fans. Twitter was unmerciful. Why is this a issue though? What is American pop culture really saying?

RiceBall Review- Sicario

This past week I was finally able to see, “Sicario”. Yes, I know the movie has been out for awhile, and I am late on the up keep, but I enjoyed the film none the less.  It was a really good movie. Granted, I do enjoy any and all things mafia, Mexican cartel, or just gangster movies in general, so I do have a bias. However, the movie was done very well. Sicario is about an idealistic FBI agent that is enlisted by an elected government task force to aid in the escalating war against drugs at the border area between the U.S. and Mexico. It stars Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Benicio Del Toro. This film has a lot of symbolism to it. Which I love. I had a long conversation about this movie and its symbolism with a friend after I left. Each actor did a great job illustrating the different perspectives that each character had on the same situation, but also an unspoken darker element to each characters personality. Everyone had their own agenda. but each agenda was intertwined into the others. The plot was very well written.  I have to give a standing  slow clap to Benicio Del Toro, he was amazing in this movie. His character was multi-dimensional. He is the partial focus of what the movie is trying to convey. In the beginning of the movie it tells what Sicario means. He was a true Sicario. He is a much darker character compared to the others. A man who’s soul seems to be tormented and shatter by a hidden dark past that continues to haunt him throughout the movie.  This darkness is also his strength, surrounded my mystery, showing the movie goer why he is the Sicario. Not loyal to anything or any one but his own goals/ agenda. I loved it. May times he is depicted as gentle or kind, but in seconds he would switch to ruthless and un-merciful. Constantly blurring the lines between right and wrong and showing the toll the Mexican cartel takes on a person. This was my dude in this movie.

Eclipse to the Blood Moon: Heroes is ReBorn

Okay, So new venue, new look. Nice!

thumbs upA lot of things I have been itching to discuss but this one takes priority. So this past weekend, the planets were aligned. The world was able to witness something that  we will not be able to seen again for the next 18 year. A lunar eclipse!!! (Depending on what side of the world you are on) The Moon was eclipsed and gave sight to a beautiful seen straight out of a movie (or anime/ TV show). The Blood Moon.  redmoon
