DC’s Come Up: Who’s Going to Save The Universe

These last few weeks have been big for the DC Universe, you had Arrow, The Flash, and Super girl all have there season finales, and Gotham having its season finale this week. But we can not forget this past week The Wonder Woman finally hit theaters, and has been a big hit far and wide all over. Diana aka Wonder Woman has been on everyone’s social media feeds, all over TV and just think about it, this movie barely got any marketing until these last few weeks. You barely saw any Wonder woman posters or TV spots. Then the big controversy of the Women’s only movie screening for this movie that had many men screaming in annoying agony of the screening.  I not only want to share my thoughts on the movie after seeing it Thursday night before the worldwide premiere, but I also want to share my thoughts on Arrow, The Flash and Super girl how there season finales will change the course of the new seasons that are to come.

Before going to see Wonder Woman, everyone questioned whether or not this movie could save the DC cinematic universe, some believed it because they’ve been long term fans of this character, some people like me who loved Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman believed she would do excellent, and there’s other people who still had a big question mark on this movie. For one something happened that we rarely have seen in the past with movie screenings, an all woman screening. After this announcement and hearing men couldn’t even at least sit in the theater, they took to twitter and all social media outlets to voice their opinions. To me I think this was great advertisement not because of the men getting pissed, but the simple fact how many people men and women wanted to see this movie. I mean even for a Thursday night when I went to see the movie I did not expect to see as many men in the theater or even that packed to say the least. I knew going into this movie, I would not see any montages to the old 70’s wonder woman; the theme playing in my head as I bought my ticket… “All The world is waiting for you, and the power you possess” but I knew I was excited for something that was long awaited.

Thursday Night Double Feature

It has been almost over two weeks since I made my venture to the movie theaters to see the two anticipated movies of this month, Lego Batman Movie, and John Wick: Chapter 2. Now this is a very interesting story, my friend told me that both movies were out that day, I honestly did not know, I thought they were coming out that Friday, and my plan was going to be to sit down and write. Well my plans to write went down the toilet, and I had an off day, I went to the gym, and planned this great day for myself. Might I add I do go to the movies by myself, and I love it. Never be afraid to go to things by yourself and just enjoy your own company. I told myself if which ever movie I can see first then I’ll do that and watch the movie after if the times don’t collide and what to do you know my plan worked out perfect.

wfaNow both Lego Batman and John Wick were special for me, because Batman is my favorite superhero and loved him in the Lego movie, so as soon as I heard this movie was coming out I knew I wanted to go see it. Now for John Wick Chapter 2, I kept hearing over the last year or so if you love action movies and want to see like some crazy and amazing gun and fight scenes watch John Wick. So Last year I finally watched John Wick the first one and loved it and literally 2 weeks later or a month later they said chapter 2 was starting to film. So I’ve been waiting for both of these movies for some time, I even got a snack and a soda, which I rarely do at the movie theater since prices are so high, but that’s for another time.

Justice League Dark: The Animated Movie

Just Recently I had the opportunity to check out one of the most anticipated DC Universe Animated movie this year, Justice League Dark. Now I do not know much about the branch of the Dark arts section of Justice except for two characters such as John Constantine, still mad they cancelled the tv show, but also Zatanna, and also I have seen Etrigan off and on. Now many of us we were hit with a trailer for this movie during comic-con which had the internet and all the comic book fans buzzing. This movie definitely got me excited because the trailer right off the bat shows you, the Justice League is not going to be apart of this mission, that it will take other Justice League operatives and people with special abilities to take on this task, will show you the trailer, and we will get back to this.

This movie does have an R rating, but there is no need for it except for a few adult jokes, and maybe more blood then usual, but I would like to say I do enjoy that Comic book movies more and more are getting that R rated feel, you can tell it lets the creators branch out a little more and even give each character more dialogue to work with. Before going into this I was already going in knowing I wouldn’t see as many regular justice league characters, but this movie will surprise you, but in a good way.

The Killing Joke: The Last Laugh

So I know this post is super super late, but I finally got to watch “Batman: The Killing Joke” the other night, and I would just like to give some feedback on what I thought of it. Now I know everyone probably by now has seen the movie and has their own opinion, but I felt I needed to say how I felt. I’ll even throw in some spoilers, even though people have probably read every review possible on this movie, and what every other person thought of it, even myself included while you’re reading this. When we look back, this movie was honestly one of the most anticipated animated movies in a long time. Everyone from the regular graphic novel Killing Joke lovers, to the people who have been keeping an a close ear to the forums anticipated this to be something special. Finding out this film was going to be an R rated animated movie, everyone thought  maybe we’ll see more or hear more cuss words and see a lot blood and violence. Or maybe even Joker will be more violent then usual , almost like we’ll see the true nature of the joker.

Now when this trailer hit airwaves, everyone was like ok this is gonna be amazing, this is  gonna be dope, just seeing this famous battle between Batman and Joker, even though we’ve seen it a million times, we still love to come back for more. I know when I was this trailer I was like ok this is really great; an animated film for a comic I’ve always heard about, never read, but every time I went to a comic book store or just looked at the Batman comics I would see the Killing Joke cover, and say to myself that’s a really dope cover. Never knowing why I didn’t really read it, I might have skimmed through it or because it had the plastic cover on it I just didn’t touch it, you know how some stores do. But besides that; I just thought this is a great year for this movie to come out with Suicide squad coming around the same time, DC is making a lot of moves, then the reviews came in.

DC Rebirth: The New Wave of Readers

As of late, comic books in general have sky-rocketed and are back in business. Now for many who have always read comic books or graphic novels this isn’t anything new, but for the new readers and old readers, like myself, who’ve read comic books growing up (but kind of stopped) this is huge. I just want to talk about my experience while reading the new D.C. Rebirth Comics. I have always loved comic books growing up, but I kind of strayed away, not because they were for kids or anything, but it’s almost like now a days it’s hard to find a straight up comic book store, where you can spend hours and hours reading, unless you live in an area that is known for having that outlet.  But I have always kept my ear to the comic book world, from watching movies, and going to places like midtown comics, Barnes and noble, and Newbury comics while just browsing and checking out the new comics that are out, or what everyone is reading.

But for some reason , everyone is reading graphic novels again, from old to even people who have never picked up a comic book in their life. Even though this is a D.C. piece we cannot over look the success of comic books like Moon Girl, and the popularity she is getting and  how she has also been crowned the smartest person in the Marvel Universe. And we can’t forget the most anticipated comic book in years, The Black Panther series, which is one of the top purchased series sold-out all over in the first few weeks of release. We have to ask why are so many people reading comics now? Is it because of all the Superhero movies that have hit the big screen? Is it because Fanboys are ridiculing movie goers that they know nothing like Jon Snow, and should read the series before they talk? Or  has everyone kind of finally come out of their hiding place to show the world they’ve loved Superheroes from the very beginning.
