Hold the Door! The Flash Did What? And X-men Be Vexing Men?! It’s Your RiceBall Recap

Does anyone else feel like summer just came out of nowhere? I mean, a week ago I was freezing my butt off, bundled up in blankets, sweaters, scarves, jackets and whatever else….and today it’s 80 (mofo’in) degrees! I have crazy, humidity hair! Ugh.

I see spring done gave up, and decided she ain’t gonna be around for all this global warming ish. We were straight cut off this year.

boring tvAnd speaking of cut off, how goes your summer TV watching? Mid-season shows have ended and I’m stuck in limbo surfing channel to channel for a nightly prime time selection. I know it’s summer when my TV yells at me to get the hell off my couch and do something productive.

TV: “Go to the gym!”

Me: Ha! TV, you’re hilarious.

But technically, it’s not summer until all the Game of Thrones eps are over, and we have 4 more of those bad boys! I refuse to delve into my summer TV rut until after GOT is over. Somehow, deep down, I know Netflix will save me, though. Especially with OITNB on the horizon. Yay!

If you missed it, a lot has transpired over the past week or so, specifically with TV and movies. Hot topics, for me, consist of The Flash, Game of Thrones, and (although I hate to admit it) X-men: Apocalypse. Yea, I took time to see it over the weekend, and man, am I disappointed.

But before I get into that, I just wanted to let you know…this is your RiceBall Recap.

RiceBall Review- Sicario

This past week I was finally able to see, “Sicario”. Yes, I know the movie has been out for awhile, and I am late on the up keep, but I enjoyed the film none the less.  It was a really good movie. Granted, I do enjoy any and all things mafia, Mexican cartel, or just gangster movies in general, so I do have a bias. However, the movie was done very well. Sicario is about an idealistic FBI agent that is enlisted by an elected government task force to aid in the escalating war against drugs at the border area between the U.S. and Mexico. It stars Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Benicio Del Toro. This film has a lot of symbolism to it. Which I love. I had a long conversation about this movie and its symbolism with a friend after I left. Each actor did a great job illustrating the different perspectives that each character had on the same situation, but also an unspoken darker element to each characters personality. Everyone had their own agenda. but each agenda was intertwined into the others. The plot was very well written.  I have to give a standing  slow clap to Benicio Del Toro, he was amazing in this movie. His character was multi-dimensional. He is the partial focus of what the movie is trying to convey. In the beginning of the movie it tells what Sicario means. He was a true Sicario. He is a much darker character compared to the others. A man who’s soul seems to be tormented and shatter by a hidden dark past that continues to haunt him throughout the movie.  This darkness is also his strength, surrounded my mystery, showing the movie goer why he is the Sicario. Not loyal to anything or any one but his own goals/ agenda. I loved it. May times he is depicted as gentle or kind, but in seconds he would switch to ruthless and un-merciful. Constantly blurring the lines between right and wrong and showing the toll the Mexican cartel takes on a person. This was my dude in this movie.

RiceBall Review: The Martian.. Would You Survive?

poster-large

What’s up everybody, it’s been a while but I am back, and I am here to bring you guys the newest movie by Matt Damon “The Martian”. Now This past weekend I did not plan on going to the movies it was merely a spur of the moment thing, and I said to myself when I get to the movie theater I’ll see whatever is playing as soon as I get there. So I chose The Martian in 3D, I don’t normally go for 3D movies that much, but some of the scenes were pretty cool especially with the scenery. Now I would just like to take a few minutes to speak on this new film, I won’t call it a review, but merely just my opinion on this film.

the-martian1

Now This movie started off with a bang, with Ares III a manned mission to Mars where Astronauts would spend 2 months on the planet, when a vicious storm hits the area where the team is working, the storm wasn’t supposed to hit for a few more hours, and went unscheduled. The team hurries to jump back on the ship and launch themselves back home, until Mark Watney(Matt Damon) gets hit by Debris from the landing gear. The captain and the rest of the team want to bring Watney back, but Dr. Chris Beck (Sebastian Stan) suggest to leave Watney because it would be impossible to find him in the storm and he is probably already dead. We later come to find out while the team has already left Mars’ atmosphere that Watney is not dead but merely struck by a sharp object where he went into the compressed holding facility for the team as he prepares to surgically remove the sharp object from his stomach.
